God has been very good and has permitted us to complete 66% of the finances for our first project: A Worthy Home! With the support of individuals and families that have sent in money, we have been able to fix the 3 level house in Peru.
The Hidalgo family is now living in the house! We have been able to make it safer and more liveable. Also, we have been able to donate a camera, so that Javier can have access to VRS at the church across the street, where his ministry is housed. Javier will have access to a Deaf, Christian mentor to encourage and support him. To see photos of our trip, check out this website!
During a meeting with the owner of the house and our new team on the Sin Fronteras Peru non-profit organization, the first payment of $9,000 was made in April 2007 during our mission trip. We currently are in need of $8,000 to complete the other 36% of the payment by the end of September 2007. It is our desire to complete this payment as soon as possible, so that we can move on to other projects that will benefit the Deaf community and others who may have disabilities in Peru.
Future projects may include: Financial support of other Deaf missionaries around the world, sending mission teams to support Deaf missionaries in evangelism/service to the Deaf, sending mission teams to support the teaching of sign language in classes/schools with Deaf children, and sending visual teaching materials in Spanish to schools for the Deaf in Peru and the world.
Please pray and ask God what your involvement might be in this project and in future projects.

Here is a short presentation about this project. If you don't have QuickTime installed, you can go here to download a copy of Quicktime.
The Deaf Ministry and the Latino Ministry of Grace Church (www.atgrace.com) have teamed up with SGDC to meet a need of a Deaf pastor in Peru. He is a graduate of the DOOR training in Costa Rica and is ministering to the Deaf community in his area.
Presently, his home is an hour away from the church and the community he serves. His living conditions do not contribute to his ministry effectiveness. We would like to see him able to live near the church and the community he serves. For that reason, we are raising funds to assist him in the purchase of that house. We believe it will cost around $17,000 to purchase the home and take care of legal and other expenses.
As of April 23, 2007, we have received $11,195 toward this project (about 66% of the need).
The short presentation above adds further details about the project.
If you would like to support this project, there are two ways that you can help:
You can send a gift to Signs of Grace Deaf Church, 3839 Merle Hay Road Ste 215, Des Moines, IA 50310. Make sure to write on the memo line that this goes to "PERU - A WORTHY HOME" so we record your gift accurately. You can also pay through PayPal by going to our Donation Page. Just select the button associated with the Peru Project.
If you live near the Minneapolis area, you can work with the Deaf Ministry and the Latino Ministry to raise funds by volunteering at the Metrodome. Just email Pastor Lenin Huaman or Mark Abercrombie for details on this.
